-Professor Mujibur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 23rd September 2023 protesting and condemning the move of keeping former MP and Jamaat’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Shahjahan Chowdhury imprisoned violating the directives of the Supreme Court.

“The present government has kept former MP and Jamaat’s central Majlish-e-Shura member Shahjahan Chowdhury imprisoned for two years and 3 months unjustifiably. He secured bail from high court in all false and concocted cases, filed against him by the government. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court also gave a directive not to arrest and not to harass him. That order reached the jail on 21st September, Thursday. Accordingly, all process of his release became completed. But suddenly he was shown arrested in a false case, filed with the Hathazari police station. So, defying his release, the authority kept him detained. Thus, the government violated the directives of the Appellate Division as well.

Ignoring the court orders, the concerned government officials kept him imprisoned and violated the law, judicial process and other rules and regulations. Shahjahan Chowdhury has become the worst victims of repression. He has been made deprived from constitutional, legal and basic human rights. We are condemning such negative steps of the government. Besides, we are urging the concerned authorities to respect the court’s order and to release him immediately.
