Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central publicity and media secretary and party’s central executive committee member Matiur Rahman Akanda has issued the following statement on 30th August 2023 protesting and condemning the terrorist attack upon Daily Naya Diganta’s Syedpur correspondent Jakir Hossain and the journalist of Daily Anandabazar Shahjahan Ali Monon.

The attacks against Daily Naya Diganta’s Syedpur correspondent Jakir Hossain and the journalist of Daily Anandabazar Shahjahan Ali Monon are tantamount to attack on the press freedom.

The goons tried to murder Jakir Hossain with their lethal weapons. They have cut his hand and made a severe hit on his chest and head. He has been admitted to a hospital with critical injuries. In the same attack, his colleague and the journalist of Daily Anandabazar Shahjahan Ali Monon also became wounded. During the current regime, journalists are becoming the victims of torture and repression. Such malpractices are being increased gradually as the government is not taking any steps against the hooligans.

I am urging the concerned authorities to immediately arrest the personnel who were involved with the incident of attacking Daily Naya Diganta’s Syedpur correspondent Jakir Hossain and the journalist of Daily Anandabazar Shahjahan Ali Monon.
