Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following message of condolence on 7th June as 15 people were killed and 15 others became injured in a severe road accident that took place in Dhaja-Sylhet highway.

A group of construction workers were on their way to Sylhet's Osmaninagar upazila's Goalabazar area in a pickup van for construction work. A potato-laden truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with the pickup and the pickup van overturned. The accident took place early today around 5:45am on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at South Surma upazila's Kutubpur area. 15 workers were killed in the accident including a female labor. Another 15 workers are critically injured and they are taking treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

I am expressing deep shock and praying for salvation for the departed souls who have been killed in this tragic road accident. I am also extending sympathy to the victim’s families. I am also praying for the quick recovery of all the injured victims.

I am urging the concerned authorities to probe into the incident to take stern measures against the involved personnel, to pay due compensation to the victims’ families, and also to ensure proper treatment for all the injured workers.
