Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 9th March 2023 protesting and condemning the re-arrest of Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General from the jail gate.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Jhan was arrested on 6th September 2021 and subsequently, he was sent to jail. Today 9th of march he got bail from all false cases but again he was arrested from the jail gate this evening.

The incident of re-arresting a person even after securing bail is a clear violation of law, constitution, and human rights. By doing this, the government has interfered with the basic rights of Rafiqul Islam Khan. We are vehemently condemning the incident.

Rafiqul Islam Khan is sick. He has been passing a tough time inside the prison for the last one and a half years. He is not getting treatment over there.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan immediately and unconditionally.
