- Maulana ATM Masum

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 25th September 2022 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of 5 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail district.

“Police have arrested 5 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Ajgona under Mirzapur Upazila of Tangail district. There was no arrest of warrant against them. It is not clear why they had been arrested. Such kind of torture and harassment cannot be accepted. I am condemning such an unjust arrest drive.

The government is not allowing any party to continue its political activities. government is also arresting and torturing thousands of leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Despite such repression, Jamaat-e-Islami has been continuing its systematic activities peacefully. We want to assert that Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. The country’s constitution has given the scope of doing political activities to every political party. No one has the authority to deprive another of exercising these rights.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including 5 activists of Tangail district immediately.
