Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 8th August 2022 on the eve of the 10th of Muharram, the Ashura Day.
I am urging my fellow countrymen to observe this day by performing prayers and rituals and simultaneously by making a vow to launch a struggle in order to free the nation from misrule defying the path of compromise.
To Muslims around the globe, the day of Ashura is very significant. On this day, Almighty Allah gave victory to Prophet Moses (A) in his fight against tyrant Pharaoh and his evil forces. Besides, historical books also referred to some incidents which took place on this day.
On the 10th of Muharram, on the historic ground of Karbala, the holy Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon Him) grandson Hazrat Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) and his family members were brutally murdered. May Allah accept all the martyrs of that day as the most prestigious martyr. This incident is very significant. Even, after so many years, Muslims from all around the world remembered the tragic incidents of Karbala and became extremely emotional. Hazrat Hussain (may Allah be pleased with Him) sacrificed his life on that day to resist injustices. The Prophet (peace be upon Him) has accepted martyrdom to uphold the Islamic state system, which had been established by the Prophet (peace be upon Him) and his companions (may Allah be pleased with him). The incident of Karbala took place as he denied compromise with the tyrant forces. As such the incident teaches us to fight against injustice and falsehood uncompromisingly.
Even now, Bangladesh as well as the entire world is suffering from discrimination, persecution, repression, and torture. The Karbala incident inspires us to make struggle with sincerity and determination in a bid to free people from such a suffocating situation. Let us learn morals and revolutionary spirit from the incident of Karbala. I am urging my fellow countrymen to make a vow to launch a struggle in order to free the nation from ongoing misrules.
