-Maulana ATM Masum

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-IslamiMaulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 13th February, 2022 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of 35 Jamaat leaders and activists from Meherpur district including district’s Nayeb-e-Ameer today.

“Without any reason, the government has unjustifiably arrested 35 Jamaat leaders and activists from Meherpur districtincluding district’s Nayeb-e-AmeerMahbubur Rahman, Secretary Iqbal Hossain and Social welfare secretary Jarjis Hossain. Since the incumbent government came to the office, they have been oppressing and torturing Jamaat men to wipe out the party. They have brutally executed 5 top Jamaat leaders including party Ameer. Despite all such repression and torture, Jamaat-e-Islami has been continuing its party activities in a systematic and democratic way. Jamaat’s all actions are transparent and peaceful. Jamaat believes in peaceful programs. But the government has been continuing its arrest drive. It becomes their routine work to detain Jamaat leaders and activists from different places of the country. The arrest drive of Meherpur is the continuation of same tactics. We are condemning the arrest of 35 Jamaat activists from Meherpur.

No ideological movement can be subdued through repression and crackdown. Jamaat will never be eliminated as well by the will of Almighty Allah. The present government is already in the back foot for their misdeeds. All democratic forces have started raising voices against this tyrannical government. If they do not stop their repressive policies, they have to face tragic consequence.

We are urging the concerned authorities to stop oppression and to release all detained activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Meherpurdistrict’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary Iqbal Hossain and Social welfare secretary Jarjis Hossain immediately and unconditionally.
