Jamaat Ameer recalls the contribution of Shaheed Abdul Quader Molla; urges to fulfill his dream of establishing Islamic society

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 11 December 2021 recalling the contributions of Jamaat’s former Assistant Secretary General, noted journalist and intellectual Abdul QuaderMolla.

Former Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, noted journalist and intellectual Abdul QuaderMolla has played an active role for establishing Islamic society in Bangladesh. As a politician, author, academician and researcher, he played a pivotal role for the development of the nation. He was a member of the liaison committee during the anti-autocracy movement of the 90s. He was very active in establishing democracy, rule of law, voting and human rights. As an author and intellectual, he tried to revive the good conscience of the people.

Government arrested him on 13 July of 2010 in connection with a political case and later, sued a case in the international crime’s tribunal. The tribunal declared life term imprisonment against him. Then, the government amended the law to file an appeal against the tribunal verdict to meet the demand of the Gono Jagoron Mancha, a platform which had been launched under the direct backing of the government, itself. Based on that amended law, he was sentenced with death penalty. Abdul QuaderMolla did not get the chance to file a review plea against the verdict of the appellate division. Even before the full verdict reveals, the authority executed him at 10.01 pm on 12 December of 2013. One and half year after his execution, the detailed verdict of the dismissal of his review plea was published. All these incidents proved that how much farce and travesties he had faced in the name of justice.

Just before the execution, Shaheed Abdul QuaderMolla has said that the government is executing me unjustifiably. Every single drop of my blood will inspire the leaders and activists of Islamic movement in this country. He also urged the fellow leaders and activists to take revenge of his unjust murder by establishing Deen in Bangladesh.

I am remembering his contributions in the Islamic movement and praying to Allah for accepting him as a martyr. I am also seeking patience and good reward for his family members. Besides, I am calling upon the manpower, well-wishers, admirers, supporters and the fellow countrymen to implement his dream of establishing Islamic society.
