Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 5 November, 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrests of Mia Golam Quddus and Mia Golam Khayer, two younger brothers of Jamaat’s detained Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar.

“Police have arrested two younger brothers of Jamaat’s detained Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar, namely Mia Golam Quddus and Mia Golam Khayer from their respective houses on 5 November noon. It should be added that, earlier the government had arrested Professor Mia Golam Porwar since last 6th September. During his detention, couple of days back, he has lost his father. The law enforcement agencies arrested his two younger brothers this time. There was no arrest of warrant against them. These arrest incidents are really inhuman. We are condemning the arrest drive vehemently.

The government has seized people’s freedom of speech and other basic rights. The entire nation has turned into a police state. The law enforcing entities are being used as a tool of repression instead of discharging their duties properly. The tendency of branding the dissidents as criminals will never give positive result for anyone.

I am urging my fellow countrymen to raise voice against the undemocratic and tyrannical government. Besides, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression and also to release Mia Golam Quddus and Mia Golam Khayer immediately.
