29 Jamaat leaders and activists of Comilla district sent to jail; Acting Secretary General protests

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 29th October, 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustified detention of 29 leaders and activists of Comilla South organizational district including district Secretary Dr. Sorwar Siddique.

29 leaders and activists of Comilla South organizational district including district Secretary Dr. Sorwar Siddique have appeared before the court on 28th October and sought bail in connection with a false and politically motivated case. But the court rejected their plea and sent them to jail. Earlier, they were on bail, which had been granted by the High Court. They have appeared before the lower court as a part of their respect towards the legal system and procedure. But we have become shocked as the court rejected their bail applications.

Two dead men and several expatriates have been enlisted in this case as the offender. This massive loophole substantiated that the case has no valid ground. They have been sent to jail as a part of the authority’s effort to harass them politically. We are condemning such fascist move of the government.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami including Comilla South organizational district Secretary Dr. Sorwar Siddique immediately.
