Police arrests four Jamaat leaders from Joypurhat including district Ameer; Acting Secretary General condemns

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has issued the following statement on 25th October, 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Jamaat-e-IslamiJoypurhat district’s Ameer Dr. Fazlur Rahman Sayeed, Secretary Maulana Golam Kibria and two others.

Police has unreasonably arrested Joypurhat district Jamaat Ameer Dr. Fazlur Rahman Sayeed, Secretary Maulana Golam Kibria, KalaiUpazila’s Acting Ameer Maulana Nuruzzaman Sarkar and former Ameer Maulana Monsur Rahman from Kalaiupazila of the district. There was no arrest of warrant against them. It has become a daily routine of the government to arrest the leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. I am vehemently condemning the arrest drive.

Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. All parties have equal rights to conduct their political activities. This is the constitutionally guaranteed rights of every party and its activists. Nobody has the right and authority to deprive others from exercising such rights.’

Criminals have made the lives of the people horrible by committing crimes in various places of the country randomly. But the government does not pay heed to those offence. The law enforcers, instead of discharging their duties are being used as a tool of the government. But branding the dissidents as criminals and the subsequent effort to suppress them will never bring good result for anyone.

I am urging the countrymen to raise voice against the incumbent autocratic government. Besides, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop repression and to release all the detained Jamaat leaders and activists including Joypurhat district Jamaat Ameer Dr. Fazlur Rahman Sayeed and Secretary Maulana Golam Kibria immediately.
