Police arrests Nayeb-e-Ameer and Ex-MP Maulana Shamsul Islam; Jamaat Ameer condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 9 September, 2021protesting and condemning the unjustified arrest of Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, central President of Bangladesh Sramik Kollan Federation and former lawmaker Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam.

“Police has unjustifiably arrested Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer, central President of Bangladesh Sramik Kollan Federation and former lawmaker Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam from house in Uttara of the capital on 8th September night. Earlier, on 6th September, police arrested Jamaat’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar and 6 other central leaders from Bashundhara residential area. Besides, in last two days, police arrested 15 Jamaat and Chhatrashibir leaders and activists from various area of the country. Government is harassing the Jamaat leaders by arresting and also through the subsequent process of police remand. Government’s conspiracy to eliminate the leadership by arrest and repression will never be succeeded. We are vehemently condemning the ongoing arrest drive of the government.

We want to assert that, no ideological organization can be subdued by such arrest, torture and harassment. I am urging the concerned authorities to stop their arrest drive and to release all the detained central leaders and activists including Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Maulana ANM Shamsul Islam immediately.
