Matiur Rahman Akanda protests intentional propaganda of several newspapers against Jamaat-e-Islami

Central Publicity Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and party’s central executive committee member Matiur Rahman Akanda has issued the following statement on 8 September 2021 protesting and gainsaying the intentional propaganda of some newspapers against Jamaat-e-Islami in line with the recent arrests of party’s central leaders.

“Several newspapers have published false and confusion information regarding the arrests of Jamaat’s Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Porwar and other leaders from an in-house meeting on last 6 September. Some newspapers claimed, that secret meeting was held to chalked out a plan to dethrone the government. While another newspaper claimed, Jamaat had the plan to create anarchy and chaos inside the country. Another newspaper stated that, Jamaat was hatching an ant-state conspiracy. All these information and news were false, concocted and politically motivated.

Jamaat does not believe in conspiracy and causing anarchy. The allegation of holding secret meeting to oust the government is nothing but a fabricated fiction of the concerned reporter. It has become a bad habit of some newspapers to publish intentional and false report against Jamaat-e-Islami immediate after a major incident. Such a baseless reporting clearly goes against the basic ethics of media and press freedom. We are vehemently condemning all these false information.

Finally, I am urging the authorities of concerned newspapers not to publish any such false news and confusing information against Jamaat-e-Islami in future.”
