4-day remand against detained Jamaat leaders; Professor Mujib calls for immediate release

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’sNayeb-e-Ameer and former member of Parliament Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 7 September 2021 protesting and condemning the false and fabricated case filed against Jamaat’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar and other central leaders and their subsequent remand in the name of interrogation and simultaneously demanding their immediate release.

The government in a pre-planned way arrested and consequently lodged false and fabricated cases against Jamaat’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar and other central leaders. The prosecution side applied for a 10-day remand. The court granted 4-day remand against the Jamaat leaders. Arrests and subsequent remand have been issued against the Jamaat leaders only to harass them politically. We are condemning such fascist attitudes and actions of the government.

I am urging the concerned authorities to cancel remand and also to release Jamaat’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar and other central leaders immediately.
