5 Jamaat men arrested from Narshingdi district; Secretary General demands immediate release

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 15 August 2021 protesting and condemning the arrests of 5 Jamaat leaders and activists from different places of Narshingdi district.

On midnight of 14th August, police unlawfully arrested 5 Jamaat leaders and activists of Narshingdi district including 2 from Madhobdi thana, 2 from Raipur and one from Shibpur thana. There was no warrant of arrest against them. The authorities have arrested them just to harass politically. I am condemning such fascist attitudes of the government.

When people are being indiscriminately due to covid-19 infection, at that time, Jamaat workers are trying to support the victims as well as the impoverished people as per the directives of the central organization. But under such crucial circumstances, the autocratic activities of the government are really painful and regrettable.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release detained 5 leaders and activists immediately.
