5 Jamaat men including district Nayeb-e-Ameer arrested in Joypurhat; Secretary General protests

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former member of the Parliament Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 3 June 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Joypurhat district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Maulana Hafez Rezaul Karim Khan and 5 others.

“Police has unjustifiably arrested Joypurhat district Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Maulana Hafez Rezaul Karim Khan, Kalai Upazila unit Ameer Maulana Munsur Rahman, Secretary Abdur Rauf, Kalai Upazila Jamaat’s former Ameer Principal Taiful Islam and Upazila’s coordinator for the religious department Maulana Mozaffar Hossen. The detainees were holding a party meeting in the house of Maulana Munsur Rahman. There was no arrest of warrant against them. They have been arrested unlawfully. I am condemning such unjust arrest drives of the government.

Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic party. As per the constitution, every political party has the right to operate its party activities. But since the incumbent government came to the office, they are conducting torture and oppression against Jamaat-e-Islami unjustifiably and tyrannically. They even obstruct the in house programs of this organization. The party cadres of the ruling party are creating mayhem nationwide including terrorism, extortion, tender terrorism, grabbing, admission business, seat business, establishing control, murder and violence. Instead of resisting the ruling party goons, police are harassing the Jamaat men. Torture and repression cannot bring good result for anyone.

I am urging my fellow countrymen to raise voice against the tyrannical government. Besides, I am calling upon the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including latest 5 victims of Joypurhat district immediately.
