Police arrest female activists of Islami Chhatri Shangstha from Meherpur just before Ramadan; Secretary General condemns

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 13 April 2021 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of Meherpur municipality Jamaat Secretary Moniruzzaman along with 6 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatri Shangstha.

Several leaders and activists of Islami Chhatri Shangstha attended a social gathering in the house of Meherpur municipality Jamaat Secretary Moniruzzaman this noon. All on a sudden, police carried out a raid in that house and arrested 6 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatri Shangstha. I am vehemently condemning and protesting such arrest drive.
He further said, the present government is not allowing any opposition parties to conduct its activities. The government is verbally saying in favor of democracy but practically they are creating bar in all democratic programs. The government has made severe oppression by arresting the female students with religious attires just a day before Ramadan. I want to affirm that by continuing such oppression, the government cannot linger its tenure and Islamic movement can never be subdued in such way. Stop the oppression, torture and arrest drive at once.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists including Moniruzzaman and 6 leaders and activists of Islami Chhatri Shangstha immediately.
