40 JCD activists injured as police charge baton on them at Press Club; Hamidur Rahman Azad condemns

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Azad has issued the following statement on 28 February, 2021 protesting police’s reckless baton charges against a peaceful and pre-declared procession of Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in front of the National Press Club.

The leaders and activists of Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal in front of the National Press Club since this morning to protest the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail custody. Police obstructed the Chhatra Dal activists that caused violence in the area. At one stage, policemen entered into the Press Club premise and the main structures and charged baton and dispersed tear shells. Journalists and many others got injured in the incident.

Press Club is a national institution. Police had never entered into the Press club such a reckless way earlier. The law enforcers have violated their tradition today and mercilessly attacked general masses and the journalists. We are protesting such violent, desperate and reckless attitude of the police members.
