DMP imposes ban on holding rallies and meetings without prior permission; Secretary General condemns

Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mia Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 3 December 2020 protesting and condemning authority’s decision to impose ban on arranging political programs and rallies without prior permission.

In a sudden move, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner issued a statement on 2nd December imposing ban on holding political, social and religious programs, meetings and rallies without prior permission. Ignoring public view, such decision of the government contradicts the constitutional spirit and it also clearly violates basic fundamental rights. It is the constitutionally endorsed rights of all citizens and platforms to hold meeting and rallies. The constitution also ensures freedom of speeches. As such, we are condemning such decisions of the concerned authorities.

The countrymen are observing that incumbent fascist government is taking one after one anti-constitutional decisions since it came into the office. They have hijacked democracy and people’s freedom of expression. The government is subduing the dissident voices so that no one could dare to talk against the irregularities, corruptions and injustices of the government. No nation can function in such a way. I am urging the authorities to repeal such anti-people decision immediately.

We are urging the fellow countrymen to raise voice against government’s undemocratic and fascist decisions.
