15 Jamaat men arrested from Natore; Professor Tasnim Alam demands immediate release

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Mohammad Tasnim Alam has issued the following statement on 15 November 2020 protesting and condemning the unjustifiable arrest of 15 leaders and activists including Natore district’s Jamaat’s Secretary Professor Sadequr Rahman and former district Secretary Principal Delwar Hossain Khan this afternoon.

Police has arrested 15 leaders and activists of Natore district Jamaat-e-Islami including Natore district’s Jamaat’s Secretary Professor Sadequr Rahman, former district Secretary Principal Delwar Hossain Khan, Boraigram Upazila Jamaat Ameer Professor Abul Hossain, Secretary Abu Bakar Siddiq, financial secretary Atiqur Rahman Master and Upazila Jamaat’s former Ameer Maulana Hashem Ali even without any arrest warrant. I am vehemently condemning the incident.

In the statement, Tasnim Alam stated that, those arrested leaders were holding an organizational meet at the Boraigram Sadar union’s Rajapur Jame Mosque. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic political party. The constitution of the country guarantees rights to all organizations to hold its peaceful and lawful meeting. So, by arresting party men from an ordinary meet, the government has committed unconstitutional task.

The government is arresting these leaders and activists in order to destroy the leadership of the organization. But Jamaat-e-Islami can never be resisted and eliminated with such arrests and crackdown. I am urging the fellow countrymen to raise voice against the autocratic government. Besides, I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Natore district Jamaat including district’s Jamaat’s Secretary Professor Sadequr Rahman and former district Secretary Principal Delwar Hossain Khan immediately.
