Central Publicity Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and party’s central executive committee member Matiur Rahman Akanda has issued the following statement on 7 November 2020 protesting the false news titled ‘জুয়েলকে পুড়িয়ে হত্যায় সরাসরি জামায়াত জড়িত, দাবি পুলিশের’ (Jamaat was directly involved with the murder of Jewel, who had been burnt to death, claims police) published in the online portal of Somoy Television.

The news titled ‘জুয়েলকে পুড়িয়ে হত্যায় সরাসরি জামায়াত জড়িত, দাবি পুলিশের’ (Jamaat was directly involved with the murder of Jewel, who had been burnt to death, claims police) published in the online portal of Somoy Television is completely a false, concocted and politically motivated news. In one part of the news, it has been stated that a Jamaat cadre named Gani gave confessional statement under 164 section. While, in another part, it claimed that, police are collecting information about Gani Kabir in his native area of Chokoria. Police is trying to find out whether there is any allegation of offence or crimes against him or not. The report revealed that, still the law enforcers are uncertain about the identity of Mr. Gani Kabir. Then why he has been introduced as Jamaat cadre? Such inconsistencies of information within this single report proved that, preplanned and syndicated news are being made to tarnish the good image of Jamaat-e-Islami.

We want to assert that, Jamaat has no connection with this Gani Kabir. Jamaat had instantaneously protested and condemned the incident of burning a man to death because of the allegation of his derogatory act against the holy Quran. The vested quarters are trying to conceal the real fact and continuing propaganda against Jamaat-e-Islami as a part of their conspiracy. Their conspiracies will never be succeeded.

Earlier, Awami League’s Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanok delivered address accusing Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir of murdering ruling party lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton. But his allegations have been proved wrong. Now similarly, they are trying to implicate Jamaat with the murder incident of Jewel. These ill-attempts are being made to save the real criminals. We think, no one should be blamed or implicated with an offence prior to investigation.

I am urging the authorities of Somoy Television to be refrained from publishing such false, fabricated and misleading news in future.
