11 leaders and activists arrested from Pabna; Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan condemns

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 2 November 2020 protesting and condemning the unjust arrests of 11 Jamaat leaders and activists from Pabna district including district's Vangura Upazila Jamaat Ameer Azgar Ali and secretary Mujibur Rahman.

On last 31 October, Pabna district including district's Vangura Upazila Jamaat Ameer Azgar Ali and secretary Mujibur Rahman and other leaders and activists went to Miapara village of the district to distribute tins among the massive blaze victims. Suddenly policemen appeared in the spot and arrested the Jamaat leaders. To arrest prople from such an humanitarian is a clear violation of human rights. We are condemning the inhuman incident.

The government is a failed government. The nation is experiencing all sorts of misrules and irregularities. Offences and crimes like murder, rape, abduction and enforced disappearances are increasing alarmingly. The government is conducting the arrest drives just to conceal their failures. We want to assert that Jamaat will never be eliminated by such crackdown.

I am urging the concerned authorities to stop arrest drives and to release all the detained leaders and activists including Pabna district including district's Vangura Upazila Jamaat Ameer Azgar Ali and secretary Mujibur Rahman immediately.
