Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Golam Porwar has issued the following statement on 3 September 2020 protesting and condemning the incident as Dinajpur's Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam has come under severe attack of the miscreants.

A group of criminals entered the official residence of Wahida Khanam and hit her on the head with a sharp weapon last night. She is in critical condition now. Wahida's father Omor Ali, a freedom fighter, was also injured in the attack. He was rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the morning. An UNO cannot reside in her residence safely. This reality indicates extreme deterioration of the law and order situation. People wants to know; was she became a major threat for some influential quarters or not. Why she has been made victimized? I am condemning this brutal incident.

I am urging the concerned authorities to conduct a fair and impartial probe into the incident to ensure exemplary and strict punishment of the involved personnel.
