Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 31 August 2020 protesting and condemning the unjust arrest of Pabna district’s Santhia Upazila council’s former chairman and Santhia Upazila Jamaat’s social welfare secretary Maulana Mokhlesur Rahman.

“The government has arrested Maulana Mokhlesur Rahman unlawfully in order to harass him politically. The government has arrested him as a part of their decade-long conspiracy to destroy the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami. There was no charge or case against Maulana Mokhlesur Rahman. But police arrested him as a suspect in connection with a case under special power act. The authority will not be able to subdue Jamaat-e-Islami by conducting such torture and repression. The government has imposed its tyrannical rule upon the nation to linger his one-party rule. I am urging my fellow countrymen to raise voice against the torture and misrule of the government.

I am calling upon the concerned authorities to stop their crackdown and to release Maulana Mokhlesur Rahman immediately.
