Sirajganj district’s Jamaat leaders and activists arrested; Rafiqul Islam Khan demands immediate release

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 30 July, 2020 protesting and condemning the arrests of 4 leaders and activists of Sirajganj district including Ullapara union Jamaat President Md. Ataur Rahman.

“Police arrested Ullapara Sadar union Md. Ataur Rahman, Shibir activist Monirul Islam and Masud Rana from their houses and another man namely Hasan Ali from his in-law’s residence. Such incidents of arrests have taken place without any excuses and it is completely against the spirit of democracy and rule of law. Criminal offences like rape and murder are being committed frequently in the country. But instead of arresting those offenders, police are detaining innocent Jamaat leaders and activists. Many opposition party workers are being harassed as well.

The incumbent government has utterly failed to govern the country and to conceal their failure, they are harassing and arresting the Jamaat activists. Even such crackdown is going on a day before the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

I am urging the concerned authorities to release all the detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir including Ullapara union Jamaat President Md. Ataur Rahman immediately.
