Professor Mujib expresses concern over deteriorating law and order situation

Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 18 July 2020 expressing deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation of the country.

“The law and order situation of the country has deteriorated severely in recent times. People are living in extreme insecurity. To the latest, 4 people killed in factional clash in Khulna, 4 members of a same family killed in Modhupur of Tangail, 2 people killed in Rajshahi, another two people killed in Teknaf and 16 people including one SI of police have been killed in Brahmanbaria. These incidents demonstrate that there is no effective law and order in the country. People are losing trust and confidence upon the enforcement of law and taking actions by themselves.

The government has failed in tackling corona pandemic crisis, flood situation and maintaining law and order. Even the law and order has been deteriorated in the villages. Narcotics, drugs and social anarchies are being spread everywhere. People are leading miserable lives due to the adverse impact of covid-19 pandemic. Under such circumstances, such incidents of brutal murders have made us shocked and worried. Instead of tolerance and humanitarian approaches, people are getting desperate and reckless.

I am urging the concerned authorities to take effective measures in order to ensure public security and also to bring back public confidence upon the life and properties, human dignity and enforcement of law.
