International Day against Drug Abuse is going to observed tomorrow: Jamaat Ameer calls to take all-out actions against drugs and narcotics

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 25 June 2020 on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ which is going to observed on tomorrow on 26 June.

“This year the day is going to be observed with the theme ‘Better Knowledge for Better Care.” Various programs and campaigns are arranged across the globe on the occasion of this day. Drugs have become a severe crisis in Bangladesh. The youth sections of the society are massively being addicted. The entire juvenile and youth communities are at the verge of destruction because of drug abuses.

Usually drugs enter into Bangladeshi territories through the border areas. Numerous phensedyl and drug production factories have been established in the Indo-Bangladesh border area in recent years. In addition, there are lots of go-downs and factories of Yaba tablets in the Myanmar border region. In these places, yaba drugs are being produced in huge quantities and its prime market is in Bangladesh. These smuggled Yaba of Myanmar are spread over the country. Bigger consignments of Yaba tablets are often being detained in Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong. The severity of drugs and narcotics are being increased excessively due to lack of strict monitoring of the government.

Recent statistics reveal that 8million people around the world dies of drug abuse every year. In Bangladesh, official number is more than one lac and 26 thousand but the real numbers are much higher. Right now, comprehensive efforts should be taken both from the government and the people to save the nation from the vicious aggression of drug abuse.

The juvenile and youth people, from 18 to 30 years, are the future of the nation. But these people are being drug addicted now days. Many of them are moving towards destruction without knowing the real fact. A family is being destroyed because of its one addicted member. Drugs and narcotics have spread over the rural areas as well.

The youth sections must be saved from the devastating influence of drugs. Strict supervision, ethical values and motivational programs are required to create hatred among the people against drugs and narcotics. The youths should be encouraged and motivated to practice Islamic life style. Awareness must be created both in family and social level. And last of all, the government has to take strict measures against drug import, smuggling, production, storage, distribution and consumption.
