Secretary General calls to take action against Rajshahi University VC for chanting communal ‘Jai Hind’ slogan

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 30 September 2019 protesting and condemning the recent incident as the Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University Professor M Abdus Sobhan chanted the slogan ‘Jai Hind’.

“We are surprised and shocked as the VC of Rajshahi University Professor M Abdus Sobhan chanted ‘Jai Hind’ slogan at the end of his speech while addressing a program in University’s History Department and Jono Chorcha Kendra recently. I am condemning his speeches.

Rajshahi University is one of the most important education institutions of the country. This university is being operated with the public funding. But holding the top position in such an institution, how could he chant such slogan, we cannot get it. He cannot chant or pronounce such slogan. By saying so, he has insulted the independent and sovereign Bangladesh. The student communities and the people across the country are aggrieved and shocked at his speeches. Chanting the slogan, he has expressed his utmost loyalty and devotions towards the neighboring country. His comment and speech are a kind of sedition. Making such an irresponsible slogan, he has lost the eligibility of holding the highest office in a public university.

I am urging the concerned VC to withdraw his controversial comment and simultaneously calling upon the authorities to take necessary effective measures against him.
