Rafiqul Islam Khan rejects IGP’s false statement against Jamaat and Chhatrashibir

Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has issued the following statement on 15th August, 2017 in regards to the comments of the Inspector General of Police A K M Shahidul Haque in which he implicated Jamaat and Chhatrashibir with Saiful Islam who has killed today in a suicide bomb explosion in a residential hotel in Panthapath of the capital.

“Immediate after the suicide bomb explosion, without any sort of scrutiny and investigation, Inspector General of Police A K M Shahidul Haque in his press briefing claimed that Saiful Islam was involved with Chhatrashibir. We are shocked and surprised at his comment. I want to assert that Islami Chhatrashibir has no connection with Saiful Islam.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic and democratic Islamic party. Jamaat and Chhatrashibir have no link with any militant groups or extremist activities. Even there is no chance to create any such relation in future as well. The incumbent unelected and undemocratic government has been arresting the innocent members and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatrashibir nationwide just to divert the public attention as they became more reckless in recent time because of a Supreme Court verdict.

Ruling party’s student wing, Chhatra League’s President and General Secretary openly asked their party men to attack on Chhatrashibir activists. They are attacking the Jamaat-Shibir workers in a pre-planned way with the police assistance and by delivering provocative speeches. Police is also detaining the Jamaat Shibir members and activists without any reason.

I am condemning such repression and torture of the government. I am also urging the law enforcement agencies to stop crackdown on opposition and also to bring the real criminals and perpetrators to the book in order to ensure their exemplary punishment. Otherwise, the government has to take the liabilities.”
