Today, 8 December (Monday) at 11:30 a.m., a delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, led by the party’s Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar met with the Chief Election Commissioner and other members of the Commission in an important meeting at the Election Commission office in Agargaon.
During the meeting, the Jamaat delegation strongly emphasized the need for the swift announcement of the date for the upcoming national parliamentary election. They also placed special emphasis on ensuring equal opportunities for all political parties to make the election free, fair, impartial, and acceptable; strengthening nationwide drives to recover illegal weapons; and installing CCTV cameras in every polling station.
Demand for a quick solution to the voting difficulties faced by expatriate Bangladeshis
The Jamaat delegation further stated in the meeting that a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis residing in various countries around the world are facing numerous complications and obstacles when trying to register online as voters.
Since these expatriate citizens make vital contributions to the country’s economy and development, the Election Commission should give the highest priority to reviewing the matter, identifying the problems, and ensuring an immediate and effective solution — so that they can cast their votes without hindrance in the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The Jamaat delegation believes that ensuring the voting rights of expatriates will make the election more inclusive, democratic, and acceptable.
Among others, Assistant Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum; Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad (former MP); Assistant Secretary General and Head of its Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair; Central Executive Council Member and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda; and Central Working Committee Member Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar were present at the meeting.
