Member of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and coordinator of Jessore–Kushtia region Md. Mobarak Hossain, said, “The people of the country will not accept elections without fundamental reforms.”
He made the remark on Sunday (31 August) morning while addressing as the chief guest at the Women Ward Secretaries’ Conference organized by Jessore District Jamaat-e-Islami at the Jessore Zila Parishad (BD Hall) auditorium. The program was presided over by District Ameer Professor Golam Rasul.
Mr. Mobarak Hossain further said, “Through the mass movement of 2024 and the sacrifice of more than 1,400 martyrs, the people of the country regained the opportunity to speak freely. The nation thought that an ideal social system and a state free from Indian dominance would be established. But various conspiracies are underway to disrupt the normal political environment. The Awami League government had turned the country into a vast prison. Jamaat’s top leaders have been killed through judicial killings. We demand a reinvestigation and trial of these murders.”
Calling upon the Election Commission, he said, “Before the election, the July National Charter must be given legal status. Based on this, arrangements must be made for a free, fair, and acceptable election. Equal opportunity, or a level playing field, must be ensured for all parties. 71% of the country’s citizens want elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) system. We demand the PR system in accordance with the aspirations of the majority.”
He also said, “Some quarters are spreading propaganda that Jamaat does not want elections. This is false and fabricated. We want an environment where acceptable elections can be held, and people can cast their votes freely.”
Special guests at the conference included Central Working Committee Member and candidate for Jessore-1 constituency Maulana Azizur Rahman, Regional Team Member Dr. Alamgir Biswas, District Secretary Principal Maulana Abu Zafar, Assistant Secretary Professor Golam Kuddus, candidate for Jessore-3 constituency Abdul Kader, candidate for Jessore-6 constituency Principal Moktar Ali, candidate for Jessore-5 constituency Advocate Gazi Enamul Haque, and Professor Abul Hashim Reza, among others.
