A meeting of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held with US Deputy Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs and Head of the Political Section Matthew Bay at the US Embassy in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting discussed Jamaat's views and position on the practice of democracy within like party, leadership selection, organizational procedures, structure and transparency in party decision-making process, and the rights of women and minorities. In addition, the role of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the movement to establish democracy in Bangladesh and also against terrorism and extremism was highlighted in detail. In addition, the trial of mass killers, reforms, the upcoming national elections and the current situation were discussed in detail during the meeting.
US embassy's Political Officer Hermanaskey, Jamie Stelly and Jamaat's Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher and party's Central Executive Council Member, and Secretary of the Central Publicity and Media Department Adv. Matiur Rahman Akanda were present in the meeting.
