Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said that even if a dictator tries to seal all the cracks, they cannot seal the crack through which their downfall occurs. Over the past 15 and a half years, they have killed countless people, made many disappear, crippled others, imprisoned people in secret detention centers, looted wealth, laundered billions of taka abroad, and built palatial mansions and “Begum Para” with that stolen money.
He made these remarks on Sunday (May 25), while speaking as the chief guest at a ward-level leadership conference organized by the Moulvibazar District Jamaat at the Kulaura District Council Auditorium.
Criticizing the Awami League government, he said there was a time when they did not even consider people as human beings. They treated people like animals and have now fled abroad. Sadly, before fleeing, they did not even inform their own leaders and activists — they just escaped to save themselves.
The chief guest further stated that the Awami League did not allow anyone to live in peace. They crossed all boundaries of oppression. Despite this, we have always raised our voices in protest against this tyranny.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized that Jamaat wants a welfare-oriented Bangladesh, where there will be no discrimination and people will be able to eat in peace twice a day. If Jamaat comes to power, it will uproot corruption and take strict action against the corrupt. He addressed the public saying, “We despise those who steal cattle and goats, yet we remain silent about those who, with the stroke of a pen, embezzle and launder billions of taka abroad. This silence is unacceptable.”
He added, “We will not judge people based on their profession or religion. Despite extreme oppression, our members must remain patient.”
Addressing the youth, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “All the welfare-oriented achievements in the world have come through the hands of the youth. There is no time for rest. Every household in the country must become a center of the Islamic movement. If Allah accepts our efforts, our rest will be in Jannatul Ferdous. If the youth step forward, we can build Bangladesh as a peaceful nation, Insha’Allah.”
The leadership conference was presided over by District Jamaat Ameer Engineer Shahed Ali and hosted by Secretary Md. Yameer Ali. Special guests included Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubayer, Sylhet City Jamaat Ameer Md. Fakhrul Islam, District Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdur Rahman, Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate for Moulvibazar-1 Maulana Aminul Islam, Sylhet City’s Assistant Secretary Advocate Abdur Rob, District Working Committee Members Hafez Maulana Tajul Islam, Md. Fakhrul Islam, Abdul Quddus Noman, among others.
Tea Workers’ Rally in Kulaura Upazila
Earlier, at a tea workers’ rally organized by the Kulaura Upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the quality of life for tea workers must be improved and their civic rights must be established. All citizens of this country should live with equal rights. The government must take equal responsibility for tea workers just as it does for other citizens. They are still deprived of basic rights. If we are entrusted with responsibility through the people’s vote, we will ensure a life of dignity for them. We will stand by their children to help nurture and develop their talents.
He emphasized that there is a vision to educate tea workers and involve them in modern tea garden management. “We do not judge anyone based on religion. We want to build a society based on friendship and harmony. To the tea workers, I say — while it may take time for you to call, it won’t take us time to arrive. We are all owners of this country. No one should ever again be divided in this country based on religion.”
The tea workers’ rally was presided over by Upazila Jamaat Ameer Abdul Muntazim. Notable attendees included Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubayer, Sylhet City Ameer Md. Fakhrul Islam, District Jamaat Ameer Engineer M. Sayed Ali, District Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdur Rahman, District Secretary Principal Yameer Ali, Jamaat-nominated parliamentary candidate for Barlekha-Juri constituency Maulana Aminul Islam, Advocate Abdur Rob, the Jamaat-nominated candidate for Sreemangal and Kamalganj constituencies, former Upazila Ameer Khandaker Abdus Sobhan, Lecturer Hamid Khan, Upazila Secretary Belal Ahmed Chowdhury, and District Islami Chhatra Shibir President Md.
