-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

A meeting of the central working committee of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held on 23rd July 2022 with its Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman in the chair. The working committee adopted the following proposal expressing deep concern over the recent price hike of the medicines.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central working committee has been observing with great concern that the government has increased the price of frequently used medicines of 53 brands under 20 generics and caused huge suffering to the people.

Severe corruption and money embezzlement are going on in the medical sector of Bangladesh. Public hospitals are harassing people in the name of treatment. Healthcare in a private hospital is beyond people’s reach. Bangladesh has allocated the lowest amount of money to the health sector. Around 90 million people are deprived of primary healthcare. Severe mismanagement and anarchy are going on centering the corruption, mismanagement, and poor services in the health sector. Under such a critical condition, a random price hike of 53 medicines has shocked and surprised the nation. In some cases, the price of medicines has been hiked from 99 to 132 percent. Such a huge price rise is nothing but an additional people upon the people.

Since the incumbent government took over the office, people’s suffering knows no bounds. As they are not an electegovernmentnt so they do not have any liability to the people. They are busy in creating problems rather than solving them. People are fully fed up due to the corruption and irregularities of the ruling party men, money laundering, money embezzlement, and other financial scams. In words, the government has shown its utmost failure in collective financial management.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is urgovernmentovenrment to stop all types of irregularities in the health sector immediately and also withdraw the increased price of the medicines.
