Former Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former member of parliament, noted religious scholar, social activist and veteran leader Maulana Abdus Subhan died in the prison cell of Dhaka Medical College on last 14 February. Innalillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun.
Following the formalities of the jail authority, the family of Maulana Abdus Subhan received his dead body and started journey towards his native district of Pabna. At 3 am, the family members, along with the dead body of Maulana Abdus Subhan reached their house. Then, people of all classes and sections started to come to see the dead body of Maulana Subhan for once. At 11.30 in the morning, the dead body was taken to Darul Aman Trust ground, an institution which had been established by Maulana Abdus Subhan long years back. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the trust ground to pay their last tribute. The Namaj-e-Janaja was scheduled to be held at 2.30 at noon. But couple of hours before the schedule, the entire ground has turned into a sea of the people.
Maulana Abdus Subhan’s youngest son Hafez Mujahidul Islam led the funeral prayer. Prior to the Janaja, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “Maulana Abdus Subhan was not only a leader of Pabna district, but also a leader of the nation. You, the people of Pabna, know him better.
Some false allegations were brought against him. Based on the false testimony of the ruling party men, Maulana Subhan was sentenced to death. But being aggrieved of the verdict, Maulana Subhan filed an appeal against the tribunal order which is pemding for hearing. Under the circumstances, he responded to the final call of Almighty Allah and took his last breath. I am asking the people of Pabna, whether he is innocent or guilty?”
Responding to such query, millions of people responded ‘he is completely innocent’. A heart-breaking scenario was created at that time across the ground. Jamaat Ameer prayed to Allah to accept this verdict of the people. Jamaat Ameer further said, “Maulana Abdus Subhan is our leader, our teacher. He has struggled throughout his life for establishing truth and justice. He has never compromised. Standing before his dead body, we are making a vow, ‘we will not compromise with the wrongdoers as well.”
Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and several local leaders addressed the gathering. Among others, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Hamidur Rahman Azad and Maulana Abdul Halim, central executive committee member and Dhaka South city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, Principal Shahabuddin and Mobarak Hossain, Dhaka north city Jamaat’s Secretary Dr. Rezaul Karim, IslamiChhatrashibir’s central President Engineer Sirajul Islam, BNP leader ShimulBishshash and former MP and district unit BNP convener Habibur Rahman Habib were present on the occasion. People of all sections, irrespective of political identities and professions, attended the Namaj-e-Janaja of Maulana Abdus Subhan.
After the Janaja, Maulana Abdus Subhan was buried in Arifpur graveyard of the town. Hundreds of thousands of people bid the final farewell to their leader with tearful eyes.
