Acting Secretary General urges CEC to allow Jamaat-e-Islami to take part in EC organized dialogues

Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana ATM Masum has sent a letter on 19th October urging the Chief Election Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for allowing Jamaat-e-Islami to take part in the ongoing dialogue with the Election Commission. He stated in the aforesaid letter that,

“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is one of the largest political parties of the country which had representatives in the parliament. Jamaat also attended in almost all the national elections.

Significant numbers of Jamaat sponsored candidates have secured victory in the local government polls including the city corporation election, municipality election, Upazila and Union level elections. Jamaat backed candidate’s also received huge number of votes. The statistics of Jamaat’s bagged votes in previous elections substantiated the party as the third largest political party of the country. Jamaat also played pivotal role in all the democratic movements of the country.

Jamaat is a registered political party. The case in regards to the Jamaat’s registration is still pending in the Appellate Division. Naturally as a public representative party, Jamaat has every right to participate in EC organized dialogues.

Jamaat-e-Islami should be given the privilege of taking part in these dialogues which are being held in order to make next 11th national parliamentary election free, fair, acceptable and credible.

We hope that Jamaat-e-Islami will be allowed to take part in the EC sponsored dialogues in order to ensure the participation of the general masses and also for the sake of due public representations.
