Jamaat Ameer calls to celebrate the Independence and National Day on 26th March with Due Respect and fervor

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a statement on March 24, 2025, urging to celebrate the Great Independence and National Day on March 26 with due respect and fervor.

In the statement, he said, “On March 26, 1971, the valiant sons of the country, the brave freedom fighters, and the freedom-loving people of the nation fought against the then rulers to establish democracy, the rule of law, justice, freedom of expression, and human rights. The main aspiration of the Historic Liberation War was equality, human dignity, and social justice. The people from all walks of life joined the war of independence to establish a country free from hunger, poverty, unemployment, and misrule. The country gained independence at the cost of the blood of hundreds of thousands of people. In the 54 years of independence, there were many expectations which are not fulfilled.

He further said, “Through the student and public uprising in July of 2024, the country has gained a second independence. After more than 15 years of oppression by a tyrannical regime, the people of the country are now able to breathe in free air. The people have regained their right to speak and can walk in peace and comfort. However, the allies of the fallen government and some self-interested groups, with the help of foreign aggressor forces, are conspiring to thwart the mass uprising and its outcomes. They want to destabilize the country again and have begun plotting to bring back the ousted dictator. In this situation, the people must unite and remain vigilant and cautious. Our movement and struggle must continue until a peaceful and prosperous new Bangladesh is established.”

He added, “On this Great Independence Day, we remember with deep respect and honor the brave freedom fighters and all the people whose sacrifices and blood have facilitated Bangladesh to earn the status of an independent and sovereign nation on the world map. We also remember all the martyrs of the July uprising, as well as the injured and the disabled. We express our deep condolences to the families of the martyrs and the injured, and we pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”

"I extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of the country on this Great Independence Day. I call upon all wings of our beloved organization, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and the people of the country to celebrate this day with due respect and fervour. At the same time, I pray to Almighty Allah seeking the welfare of the people of our country. May Allah protect the independence and sovereignty of our beloved country."
