The annual session of the Central Majlis-e-Shura of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held on December 11 at 10 AM, chaired by the Ameer of the organization, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, at the Al-Falah auditorium in Moghbazar of the capital. The session was conducted by Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, and attended by the Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP, Professor Mujibur Rahman, Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher, Maulana A.N.M. Shamsul Islam, and other members of the Central Executive Council and the Central Majlis-e-Shura. In his speech, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman addressed the Shura members and the countrymen about the current situation of the country.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "The Central Majlis-e-Shura session of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is being held at a time when our beloved homeland received a long-awaited change on August 5 of this year. I pay my respects to the key architects, heroes, and companions of this change, especially those who have given their precious lives to bring about this much-needed change for the nation. I pray to the Almighty Allah for them. Many of our colleagues, brothers and sisters, the youth, children, elderly, and women have been severely affected while making this change. Many have lost their sight and have been permanently blinded, some have lost their hands, and others have become disabled. Still, countless students and citizens are severely injured and are in hospital beds. I pay my respects to those who are still alive despite the injuries and pray to Allah for their swift recovery. We express deep sympathy and respect to the honorable family members of the martyrs. Many have suffered imprisonment, harassment, and torture while fighting for the movement, both inside the country and abroad. Some of our citizens are still in prisons in foreign countries. We urge the government to swiftly take action to implement our visions and directly contact the governments of the concerned countries to facilitate their release. The government must ensure their safe return to the country and subsequently arrange their rehabilitation."
He continued, "For the past 15 and a half years, the fallen autocratic government has deprived the nation of all its rights. The right to justice, the right to freedom of expression, the right to speak, and the right to vote for a preferred candidate have all been denied. Many talented individuals have been sent into retirement instead of being given important state responsibilities. Some have been made OSDs (Officers on Special Duty). Due to stance on the opposite to the government, many opposition leaders and activists have been murdered in cold blood. This brutal killing spree started on October 28, 2006, with the infamous logi-baita violence. The people of Bangladesh and the world witnessed the killings and destruction up to August 5, 2024. The fallen government showed no regard for the safety, property, or dignity of the people. We respectfully remember the 57 courageous army officers martyred in Pilkhana. May Allah grant them martyrdom. After that, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami became the target. Two former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Professor Ghulam Azam (Rah.) and Shaheed Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami (Rah.), along with 11 of our colleagues, were brutally executed under the guise of trial. We protested then and continue to protest now. We pray to Allah that He accepts them as martyrs."
"The Jamaat-e-Islami has suffered the most under the fallen government. No other party has faced such extensive damage. We have lost more than 500 colleagues across the country. Thousands of cases have been filed, and millions of people have been imprisoned. Our homes had effectively become prisons. There was imprisonment both inside and outside our homes. The entire country was turned into a jail. Many innocent and conscientious people were forced to leave the country and seek refuge elsewhere due to the chaos. Many talented journalists, who reported the truth from their conscience, were not safe and had to leave the country. In 2013, we observed the chaos created in the center of Shahbagh, where two parallel governments were operating. One government was centered around the parliament, and the other was centered around Shahbagh. The Shahbagh government became more powerful than the parliament-based government, and their words decided when the national flag would rise or fall. The nation watched in astonishment as these events unfolded."
Despite all the trauma, the nation survived. They raised their voices against every injustice. On August 5th, by the grace of Allah, this burden of fifteen and a half years was removed through the efforts of our student-like children, the youth of this nation. Approximately two thousand lives were lost in a brutal manner. People were killed on the ground and also shot from the skies. It felt like a war against the nation by the government. We once again pay our deep respects to them. It is through their immense sacrifices that today's Bangladesh has been created, a new Bangladesh. Therefore, this nation must honor their blood and take care in repaying this debt. We are committed to giving our citizens the dignity they deserve for their sacrifices. We want a just society, a society without discrimination. To build such a society, a fair election is necessary, through which someone will take the responsibility of leading the country. In light of this, we urge the current government to implement the necessary reforms and create a level playing field for holding a fair election. A roadmap for this process must be provided. We have also said that as soon as these fundamental reforms are completed, steps must be taken for the elections."
He further said, "One of the two fundamental issues for a fair election is include all adult individuals in the voter list. The second is that the previous government, through oppression, targeted the areas where the opposition was strong and reduced the number of seats. They carried out this injustice under the guise of constituency redistribution. These must be reconsidered and demarcated in light of conscience and practicality."
He continued, "After three consecutive farcical national elections, the people of the country have lost faith in the voting process. Numerous young men and women have come of voting age, but they have lost interest in voting. We must restore their trust in the elections. We need to go door to door to update the voter list. For this, we are in favor of a reasonable amount of time, not a prolonged or indefinite period. Additionally, our expatriate brothers, who have fought alongside us against this fascist government, deserve respect. They, too, must be included in the voter list."
As the country moves in a positive direction, we observe that the fallen autocratic government and their associates are trying to destabilize the country, both within and outside. They aim to create chaos in our society. Alhamdulillah, the wise and patriotic people of Bangladesh have recognized their intentions and thwarted them. Allah has made their conspiracies fail. Their futile efforts have once again helped unite the nation. If our opponents realize this, they will understand that the people of this country will never again surrender helplessly to anyone, nor will they fear any threats."
"We want a beautiful, peaceful, and humane country. We want a corruption-free country. We want a just society. We want to establish our youth as the architects of this nation's development. Gradually, we want to hand over the responsibility of managing the society to them. In building such a transformed Bangladesh, a humane Bangladesh, we wish to honor everyone, regardless of gender, and place them in positions of dignity. We are hopeful that with the cooperation of the beloved people of this country, we can create the Bangladesh we desire. Therefore, we call upon all patriotic citizens to unite for the national interest, to remain united and not be divided. If the nation remains united, those who conspire against it will certainly fail. May Allah make them fail, InshAllah."
