Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that, “The role of expatriates in nation-building is undeniable. While the hard work of remittance warriors keeps the economy of the country functional, no government has ever given expatriates the respect as they deserve. Upon coming to power, we will take various steps for the development of expatriates, as well as create a suitable environment for them to invest in the country.” He further expressed his hope for full cooperation from expatriate brothers and sisters in the future to build a society based on justice and fairness in Bangladesh.
He made these remarks as the chief guest while addressing a conference of the British Bangladeshi Community Forum Network held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the local Banqueting Hall in Birmingham, UK.
Currently visiting the UK, Dr. Shafiqul Rahman began his speech by answering various questions from party leaders and workers regarding the current situation in Bangladesh and other relevant issues. He described the 16 years of Awami League as an era of oppression and torture. Terming the killing of 57 patriotic and skilled army officers, as the first step in turning Bangladesh into a dysfunctional state. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman claimed that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has been the most oppressed party under the autocratic government. He also protested the judicial killings of 11 of the party's top leaders. He expressed his belief that these killings should be subject to legal action to establish justice.
In the interactive session, he urged the participants, “If you find any mistakes among us, please try to correct us. If you cooperate, it will be much easier for us to walk on the path of righteousness.” The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, led by Abdullah Suhail Madani. President of the Muslim Community Association, West Midlands Unit, Syed Jamirul Islam Babu, presided over the program which was hosted by Fareed Mia.
