Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 3rd August, 2024 urging the Prime Minister to resign immediately.
The government has carried out a massacre to suppress the movement of the student community and shifted the blame of such atrocities upon the opposition parties. But the people have rejected that deceptive tactic of the government. The illegal and unconstitutional initiative of the government of banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir to conceal their massacres did go in vain. The people have rightly understood that the government wanted to divert the attention of the nation by banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir to avoid public anger.
The people of all levels of the country have come to the field to protest against the government's massacres, mass arrests and lodging of false cases. On Saturday, people of all walks including the teachers, journalists, poets and writers, cultural personalities, artists, actors and actresses, engineers, doctors, lawyers and parents came down the streets with their children along with the protesting students across the country including Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Barisal, Rangpur, Bogra. The police fired bullets, teargas and sound grenades at various places yesterday to quell the agitation. Many people became injured and 2 people lost lives in these incidents across the country.
Today, similarly students were shot at in various places of the country, including Comilla, Faridpur, during the protest program of the general students. People from all levels of the country stood by the student community and demanded the trial of the recent massacres and also the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The people are united for one point demand and that is the immediate resignation of Sheikh Hasina.
In the current situation of the country, we appeal to the law enforcers of the country including police, BGB, RAB and the patriotic army, not to take a stand against the people. Do not try to silence the protesting voices which have been raised against the killing of children and teenagers. This country belongs to all of you.
We want to say to the government that accept the one-point demand of all the citizens of the country, including students-teachers-parents-journalists and resign immediately and restore peace and tranquility in the country.
On behalf of our beloved organization, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, I am once again extending full support to the peaceful movement of the students and calling upon the people of the country to take side with the students to press the government to step down immediately. I urge everyone to be careful so that no evil force can mislead the ongoing students’ movement by causing any untoward incident. May Allah help us all, Ameen.
