Rafiqul Islam met with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. The joining ceremony was held on Friday (26 December) at 4:00 pm at the central office of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
During the meeting, in the presence of Jamaat Ameer Alhaj Mohammad Rafiqul Islam expressed his deep confidence and satisfaction in Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s principles and ideology, patriotism, and the party’s unwavering stance in safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty.
At that time, by filling out the Primary Associate Member Form of the organization, he formally joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He expressed his firm determination to spend the rest of his life in the service of Islam and Islamic values, the national interest, and the protection of independence and sovereignty. It is noteworthy that Alhaj Md. Rafiqul Islam is not only a freedom fighter but also a noble patron of education, a tireless worker in social development, and an indispensable name in the development of Bhairab. Through educational institutions, mosques, and diverse welfare initiatives, the contributions he has made will remain a beacon of inspiration for the new generation.
An activist of the student movement in the 1960s, a student leader of Haji Asmat College and Dhaka University, and the elected Drama and Recreation Secretary of DUCSU, he directly took part in operations as a valiant freedom fighter in the Kuliarchar–Bhairab–Kishoreganj region in 1971.
After independence, he devoted himself to education and social welfare. His sacrifice and farsightedness stand behind many institutions, including Fatema Ramzan Government Primary School, Shaheed Arbur Rahman Kindergarten, Murshid–Mujib High School, the nationally award-winning Rafiqul Islam Women’s College, and Halima Sadia Women’s Madrasa.
