On the morning of 11 December (Thursday), a courtesy meeting was held between Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and a delegation from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the official investment and trade promotion agency of the Government of Japan.
The meeting took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere at the Jamaat Ameer’s office in Bashundhara. Mr. Kazuiki Kataoka, Country Representative of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO); Mr. Hironori Yamanaka, Country General Manager of Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania Pte. Ltd. and representative of the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Dhaka; Mr. Manabu Sugawara, President of the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Dhaka (Dhaka Shoo-Koo-Kai), and Vice-President Mr. Hironori Yamanaka; and Mr. Sugawara Manabu, Country Head of Marubeni Corporation. Also present were Mr. Shariful Alam, Senior Director of JETRO Dhaka Office, and Assistant Manager Ishrat Jahan were present during the meeting.
At that time, Jamaat Ameer said that Japan is a tested friend of Bangladesh. Japan has played an important role and made significant contributions as a development partner of Bangladesh. Jamaat-e-Islami welcomes foreign investment.
The Japanese delegation informed the Jamaat Ameer that around three hundred Japanese companies are currently operating their business activities in Bangladesh.
Jamaat Ameer thanked the Japanese delegation and expressed hope that Japanese investment in Bangladesh would increase further in the future.
