Meeting of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held

-Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

A meeting of the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was held this evening, Tuesday, November 4, with party’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman in the chair. Members of the Central Executive Council were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the Jamaat Ameer briefed the leaders on various aspects of his recent foreign tour. The Council expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the success and positive outcomes of Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s visit for the benefit of the country and the nation. The Central Executive Council also extended its thanks to him.

The meeting held an extensive discussion on the prevailing political situation in the country.

The Central Executive Council observed that the government is showing undue delay in arranging the referendum aimed at providing legal recognition to the July National Charter, which is a matter of grave concern for the nation. Some quarters are suggesting that the referendum and the national election be held on the same day. Holding both the referendum and the national election simultaneously would severely undermine the significance of the referendum and render the process uncertain. This is because, if the voting in any polling center for the national election is suspended, the referendum there would also be halted  which is completely unacceptable.

In this context, the Central Executive Council of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami strongly urges the interim government to immediately issue an order implementing the July National Charter and to arrange the referendum within the month of November. Furthermore, based on the outcome of the referendum, the national parliamentary election must be ensured in February next year.

The Central Executive Council of Jamaat-e-Islami also strongly demands that the government and the Election Commission install CCTV cameras in every polling center to ensure that the upcoming national election is free, fair, transparent, and acceptable.
