Acting Secretary General protests against the remarks of the spokesperson of Indian Ministry of External Affairs

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Acting Secretary General Maulana ATM Masum issued a statement on May 31 condemning and protesting the remarks made by the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal that "India wants to see elections in Bangladesh at the earliest."

In the statement, he said, “We condemn and protest against the unprofessional remarks made by Indian Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal at a weekly press conference on Thursday (May 29) where he stated that ‘India wants to see elections in Bangladesh at the earliest possible of time.’ Such remarks by the Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson in regards to the internal affairs of an independent and sovereign country like Bangladesh are tantamount to interference in the internal affairs of Bangladesh and a violation of the UN Charter. The government and people of Bangladesh will decide when the national elections will be held in Bangladesh.

We call upon the Indian government to abide by the UN Charter while making comments about the internal affairs of Bangladesh in the future. We also urge the Bangladesh government to condemn and protest against the unwarranted and objectionable remarks made by the Indian Foreign Ministry's Spokesperson.”
