The nation will recall the language movement heroes for their highest sacrifice: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has said on 21st February or on 8 Falgun of the Bengali calendars, the language movement heroes had made the highest sacrifice. Their sacrifice and dedication are unprecedented. The courageous youths had intensified the language movement by dint of their sacrifices. But the language became unprotected due to the aggression of anti-national forces. To restore the dignity of Bengali language, we all should try altogether to protect our mother language from anti-national cultural and educational aggression.

Jamaat Ameer said, the language movement heroes, who had sacrificed their lives will be remembered always. He prayed for the salvation of the soul of the language martyrs and extended sympathy to their families.

Jamaat Ameer said this while addressing a discussion and prayer program in an auditorium of the capital marking the international mother language day. Dhaka South city unit of Jamaat-e-Islami organized the event. Central Executive committee member and Dhaka south city Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul presided over the program. Central working committee member and Dhaka south city Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Monjurul Islam Bhuiyan, central Majlish-e-Shura member and Dhaka city Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, former central president of Chhatrashibir and Dhaka south city Jamaat Assistant secretary Delwar Hossain and central Majlish-e-Shura member Abdus Sobur Fakir addressed the program. Among others, former central president of Chhatrashibir and Dhaka south city Jamaat Assistant secretary Abdul Jabbar, city working committee member Kamal Hossain, labor leader Abdus Salam, noted academician Abdul Mannan, Abdur Rahman, Advocate Jashim Uddin Talukdar and Sheikh Sharif Uddin Ahmed were present on the occasion.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, a nation which suffers from inferiority complex can never be succeeded. We are a dignified nation. Only for the honor of the language movement, several martyrs had sacrificed their lives. But now our rights have been seized. But no rights can be secured without struggle and sincere efforts. The people, who are in fear of Allah, they must play pro-active role for the freedom and just rights of the people. Histories are being distorted now. But from now on, we will move confidently by bolstering our character and morality. On the eve of this day, we should make a vow not to bow down, rather to march ahead with confidence.

Addressing the program, Nurul Islam Bulbul said, the Islamist originated the language movement. It was strengthened by the efforts of Tomuddun Majlish. Dr. Mohammad Shahidullah and former DUCSU GS Professor Ghulam Azam played historic role in the language movement. Professor Ghulam Azam read out a memorandum to press the demand for making Bengali as state language in presence of the then Prime Minister of Pakistan, Liakat Ali Khan.

Though while celebrating international mother language day, the government often says of tackling anti-national aggression. But practically, they failed to undertake any effective initiative in this regard. It is the demand of the moment to introduce Bengali at all spheres of lives. We should be firm and united to protect our language and national heritage. Besides, based on the spirit of international mother language day, we all should come under one umbrella to wipe out tyranny, fascism and undemocratic elements and also to establish democracy, human rights, rule of law, equality and justice at all levels.

Following the discussion, special prayer and supplication was arranged seeking the salvation of the departed souls of the language movement heroes.
