Secretary General at a massive workers’ conference in Barguna

Meaningful reforms must precede fair elections, asserts Mia Golam Porwar

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, stated that the people’s movements and struggles in Bangladesh have always been against injustice, oppression, discrimination, and for securing their rights. The recent 17-year-long autocratic rule of Sheikh Hasina has led to widespread student and public protests against inequality, reflecting the nation's ongoing fight for justice.

Speaking as the chief guest at a massive workers' conference organized by the district Jamaat at Barguna Town Hall field on Wednesday, February 26, Professor Mia Golam Porwar made these remarks.

He further said that during the mass uprising of 2024, more than 2,000 young individuals were shot dead, while enforced disappearances, crossfire killings, and various other crimes were masterminded by Sheikh Hasina. He claimed that this fact is now well known both within the country and internationally. The student-led uprising saw numerous individuals fall victim to mass killings, while thousands were injured or left permanently disabled.

He alleged that under the guise of prosecuting so-called crimes against humanity, judicial killings were carried out to execute the finest leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami. He described Sheikh Hasina as so ruthless and fascist that merely calling her a fascist is not enough. Rather, he labeled her as a "sadist"—as her heart remains unmoved by killings, disappearances, and bloodshed but instead takes pleasure in them.

He further claimed that various groups are now conspiring to reinstate the tyrannical Sheikh Hasina into politics in order to save her. However, the people of this country will resist such conspiracies at any cost. He emphasized that the blood of thousands of young protestors has led to a new form of independence, and the interim government now carries the people’s high expectations. He insisted that meaningful reforms must be completed before holding any elections.

At the workers' conference in Barguna, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Assistant Secretary General, Advocate Muazzam Hossain Helal, also spoke as a special guest. In his speech, he stated that the hard-earned independence of Bangladesh, achieved through great sacrifices, must be preserved, and for that, people must be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifices if necessary.

Special guests at the event included the Ameer of Barishal city and Central Majlis-e-Shura and Executive Council Member, Principal Zahir Uddin Muhammad Babar, as well as Central Majlis-e-Shura Member and Regional Team Member A.K.M. Fakhruddin Khan Razi. Dr. Sultan Ahmed, a Majlis-e-Shura member from Dhaka Metropolitan South, also delivered a speech. Additionally, Maulana Abu Jafar Muhammad Saleh, the former Ameer of Barguna District, addressed the gathering.

The conference was presided over by the Ameer of Barguna District Jamaat and former Vice Chairman of the Upazila Sadar Professor Maulana Muhammad Mohibullah Harun.

The event was hosted by Barguna district Jamaat Secretary Muhammad Asaduzzaman Al Mamun.
