Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Acting Ameer and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 10th September, 2023 protesting and condemning the obstruction, attacks and arrest drives against the pre-declared processions of Jamaat-e-Islami in all cities and simultaneously thanking the countrymen and the Jamaat leaders and activists for making the declared programs successful.
“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami had declared peaceful demonstration in Dhaka on 8th September and other cities on 10th September. Police attacked the procession of Dhaka south city Jamaat on 8th September and arrested 50 Jamaat activists and passerby from the spot. They are continuing arrest drives in various places of the country. I am condemning the ongoing arrest drives and simultaneously thanking the countrymen and the Jamaat leaders and activists for making the declared programs successful.
Government’s torture and repression have exceeded all the previous records. The government is using the law enforcers to oppress the opposition. During the arrest drives, they are making misbehavior with the family members of the opposition leaders and activists. The authorities are also trying to complete the political cases shortly to convict the opposition men. But public movement will never be subdued by the means of such repression. This fascist government will be made compelled to hold an election under a caretaker regime.
I am urging the government to stop torture and harassment, to restore caretaker government system and also to release all detained leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, Chhatrashibir and other religious scholars immediately.
