The issue of majority-minority should be dropped forever, says Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

Jamaat Ameer exchanges views with priests and leaders of the Hindu community

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "All citizens of this country will enjoy equal rights and people of all religions will raise their voices and say that here we are neither majority nor minority, we are all equal. I want the majority and minority issues to be dropped forever.”

After visiting the central temple at Kafrul of the capital on Monday afternoon, he said this while addressing an exchange meeting with the puja committee and priests and leaders of the Hindu community. President of Temple Committee Babu Tapanendra Narayan Hor presided the program while hosted by Babu Haripad Das Dolan. Among others, Jamaat’s Central Executive Council member and Dhaka north city Ameer Muhammad Salim Uddin, Vice President of Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation Lashkar Muhammad Taslim, Hindu leader Babu Manoj Sarkar, Babu Shiv Shankar Saha, Nitish Kumar Saha, Doctor Biplab spoke on the occasion on behalf of the Hindu community.

Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, "Our first identity is that we are human beings. Our second identity is all of us born in this country are Bangladeshis. Citizens of all religions shall enjoy the rights given to a Bangladeshi citizen equally as guaranteed by the constitution of my country.

He said, "The young society of this country will fulfill the responsibility of future Bangladesh on the basis of merit. Here also we will not tolerate any gap. We want to keep this yard clean. I'm not just talking about us. I would say this about all the politicians.

I request people of all communities, let us accept each other as brothers and friends. Then there will be no violence and strife. No religion teaches anyone to be a rogue. If something like this happens then it is not religion. Religion makes people sophisticated and caring for others. Religion makes people human.

Central working council member and Dhaka north city Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdur Rahman Musa, Central Working Council member and Dhaka north city secretary Dr. Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Assistant Secretary Mahfuzur Rahman and Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, Publicity secretary Ataur Rahman Sarkar were also present in the event.
