Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former lawmaker Professor Mujibur Rahman has issued the following statement on 24th March 2023 calling upon to observe the Independence and National Day on 26th March with due fervor.
On 26th March of 1971, the valiant sons of the soil, the freedom fighters, and freedom-seeking people launched resistance against the then rulers in order to establish democracy, rule of law, justice, freedom of expression, and human rights. People from all walks participated in the war of liberation to create a country free from hunger, starvation, unemployment, and misrule. Finally, Bangladesh became independent in exchange for the blood of hundreds of thousands of people. Since then, 53 years have passed, but people’s expectations are not met yet.
The countrymen are observing independence day at such a time when there is no existence of rule of law, justice, freedom of expression, and fundamental rights. People with dissident views are being harassed and arrested frequently. The people’s suffering knows no bounds due to the price hike of the essentials. People are living terribly. Due to negligence and indifferent attitude of the government, the nation is moving towards a certain destiny.
We are remembering those great souls who have sacrificed their lives and based on that dedication and sacrifice, Bangladesh has emerged as an independent-sovereign country on the global map. I am urging Jamaat-e-Islami, its wings, and fellow countrymen to observe Independence Day with due fervor. I am also praying to Almighty Allah for the welfare of the countrymen. May Allah preserve and protect the independence of our beloved nation.
