Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued the following statement on 11 April 2022 remembering the contributions and sacrifices of noted journalist, politician, intellectual, author, researchers, and Jamaat-e-Islami’s former Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.
Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was involved with the Islamic movement since his student life. As a politician, along with his political role, he also kept significant contributions as an author, researcher, and journalist. He authored several important books. His books and articles will inspire the leaders and activists of the Islamic movement and the people of this country in the coming years. His contributions to establishing democracy, justice, rule of law, human rights, and voting rights will be remembered always.
The government had filed false cases against him. Just based on assumptions, he was awarded the death penalty.
Statements and condemnations were issued from home and abroad against the sentences. United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, and many other countries urged the government to halt his execution. But defying all those pleas, Muhammad Kamaruzzaman was executed on 11th April 2015 at 10.30 pm.
May Allah accept his martyrdom. I am urging my fellow countrymen to come forward to get involved with his unfinished mission of establishing a welfare state based on Islamic ideologies.
